The castle "Burg Rheinstein" is one of the most impressive cultural monuments upon the Middle Rhine. After a period of
decline in the 1970s, further dereliction of this lovely treasure upon the river Rhine was prevented in
1975 by the purchase and the enormous personal commitment of the Hecher Family.
Soon it became clear that all the rebuilding and restoration were impossible to be carried out with only the personal
initiative of the Hecher family and the financial support of the federal state of Rheinland-Pfalz. So, in 1976, Hermann
Hecher founded the non-profit friends' association "Freunde der Burg Rheinstein e.V.". Since then, a lot of enthusiastic friends could be won to whom the cultural heritage and the preservation of the monument is a personal concern.
All membership fees and donations are used as earmarked funds for the preservation and maintenance of Rheinstein Castle.
We would be glad, if you also wanted to say: "I have a castle upon the river Rhine which I find worth preserving." Newsletters are sent out periodically and a celebration at Rheinstein Castle for all members of the association takes place once a year.
Acquire a piece of the castle's pathway as a "fief for life"! Rheinstein Castle and its friends' association issue sponsorships for funding the pathway's restoration. In the 19th century, the measure of length was the
"Prussian Foot", which is 31,385 cm (approx. 12,5 inch). Hence, the pathway is subdivided into "Prussian Foot".
For the sponsorship a one-time charge of 15,00€ per "Prussian Foot" is due. Thereby, you save a piece of the pathwalk for yourself and get a personal certificate! Each sponsor is recorded on this website by
name. Furthermore, each sponsor gets a donation receipt.
Please help us to ensure the funding of this important project and become a sponsor for one or even more "Prussian Foot". Our thanks is guaranteed!

The castle's pathway, which offers a breathtaking panoramic view, shall get improved.
Due to persistent rain in winter 2001, retaining walls of the castle's pathway were washed out and could not be preserved, despite intensive efforts.
Until December 2005, some wooden boardwalks were built in order to be able to pass the damaged areas, as it took 5 long years to negotiate the funding and subsidization.
Fortunately, this damage is repaired by now. However, the pathway above Rheinstein Castle, which was built by the Prussians and offers an outstanding panoramic view along the castle's watchtowers, shall be made more attractive.
In order to referbish this historic pathway with its beautiful lookout tower, we need your help/donation.
